Reliance Industries, owned by business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, is constructing a world-class smart city near Gurugram, Delhi. The company, through its fully-owned subsidiary Model Economic Township Limited (MET), is developing the smart city named Reliance Smart City. The city will be an integrated industrial hub and is expected to attract over 450 multinational companies, including seven from different countries, by the financial year 2022-23.
The city is being built on 8,000 acres of land in Jhajjar district, Haryana. The first phase of the project has received a license to build the city on 1,900 acres of land. Reliance Industries has already invested INR 8,800 crore in the basic infrastructure of the city, which includes five industrial areas and two SCOs (social commercial projects). The project has created over 25,000 jobs so far.
One of the key features of this new city by Reliance is its connectivity. It is well-connected to Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and other nearby cities. The city is strategically located near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and close to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. It will also have rail connectivity through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
Overall, Reliance Smart City is set to become a world-class industrial hub with strong connectivity and a wide range of multinational companies. The project is expected to boost economic growth and create employment opportunities in the region.
