Traffic Jam from Delhi to Gurugram
The Republic Day celebrations have caused a traffic jam from Delhi to Gurugram. The Delhi Police diverted the route, resulting in a 12-kilometer long jam in Gurugram on Thursday evening. The jam started at Sarhaul border and extended till Rajiv Chowk. It took a long time for vehicles to travel from Delhi to Gurugram, with a 12 km long jam along the route.
Declared No-Flying Zone
Due to security reasons during Republic Day, strict vigilance is being maintained in the sky. The no-flying zone will be in effect from morning until the end of the program. No unauthorized flights will be allowed to take off or land during this period. However, there will be no restrictions on pre-determined flights of the Indian Army and Border Security Force. Additionally, there will be no restrictions on government-operated helicopters. To enhance security, the borders have been sealed from late Thursday night until the end of the celebrations. However, vehicular movement will remain normal and vehicles will be checked at checkpoints. Delhi Police will be stationed in plain clothes on small roads near the border.
Restricted Items during the Celebration
For security reasons, the police have banned certain items during the Republic Day celebrations. Items such as food, bags, briefcases, radios, transistors, tapes, cameras, binoculars, handheld cameras, thermoses, water bottles, juice, lighters, matches, and digital devices are prohibited. Festive diaries, pen drives, hard drives, tablets, iPads, perfume sprays, mobile phones, chargers, earphones, etc. are also not allowed.
Increased Surveillance in Markets and Key Locations
Security has been increased in markets, especially in and around the Sarojini Nagar market. Metal detectors have been installed on roads connecting the market, allowing people to enter only after being checked. According to Ashok Randhawa, President of the Sarojini Nagar Mini Market Traders Association, “The market is already quite sensitive.” Due to its proximity to New Delhi, special vigilance is being maintained. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed for market security since January.
Proper Arrangements Made
Software-enabled cameras are being used to identify people’s faces to keep an eye on suspects. The Army’s Helicopter Commando Unit is dedicated to ensuring security. An anti-drone detection system has been deployed to secure the sky. In addition, SWAT commandos and NSG snipers have been stationed around the Samora site.
Hours-long Jam on Jaipur Highway
On Thursday evening, drivers on the Delhi-Jaipur highway were stuck in a jam for hours. The jam lasted from around 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, with small vehicles managing to maneuver their way out. Police cleared the vehicles and restored traffic after two hours. Satveer Chaudhary, a resident of Sector 31, said it took him two hours to reach Gurugram from Delhi. There was no police presence at the entry point in Delhi, which caused a delay in bringing traffic back on track for several hours. Vijendra Kumar Sharma, a resident of Sector 15, mentioned that his family was returning from his niece’s wedding in Delhi. Instead of reaching home at 7 pm, they arrived at 8:30 pm due to heavy diversion of vehicles. The jam gradually reached Shankar Chowk in Gurugram.
