In a landmark development for the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Adani Defence & Aerospace has joined hands with Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer. The two entities signed an MoU on January 27, 2026, to set up a manufacturing ecosystem for regional commercial aircraft in India.

Scope of the Agreement

The partnership aims to set up a comprehensive Final Assembly Line (FAL). This facility will produce regional jets designed to carry 70 to 146 passengers. Embraer has indicated that they are looking at an “Equal Partnership” model, although the final terms are currently being finalized.

Who were the Key Officials Present?

The agreement was signed by Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, and Arjan Meijer, CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Civil Aviation in New Delhi, witnessed by Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu.

Government Support and Incentives

The Indian government views this as a milestone in the country’s aviation journey. Reports suggest that fiscal incentives might be offered to airlines that purchase aircraft manufactured from this local assembly line. This supports the broader vision of connecting smaller Indian cities through air travel.

What’s Next for the Joint Venture?

Embraer had already increased its activity in India by opening a new office in Delhi in October 2025. Moving forward, both companies will announce the specific location for the factory and the investment amount in the next few months.
