An Air India flight coming from London to Bengaluru has been grounded after a serious technical fault was detected by the pilot. The incident took place on Monday, February 2, 2026, involving flight AI-132. The aircraft is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with the registration number VT-ANX. Air India has stopped the plane from flying and has started a detailed investigation to ensure passenger safety.

What was the technical fault in the aircraft?

The problem occurred in the fuel control switch of the left engine. According to the pilot’s report, the switch failed to lock in the ‘RUN’ position during routine checks. It reportedly slipped towards the ‘CUTOFF’ position when pushed slightly.

This is a critical part of the plane because this switch controls the fuel supply to the engine. If this switch moves to the ‘CUTOFF’ position during a flight, the engine will shut down immediately. The pilot caught this issue while performing standard safety checks on the ground.

Why is this investigation urgent?

This incident has raised alarms because it is very similar to a suspected fault that caused a major accident in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. In that crash, an Air India Boeing 787 (AI-171) was involved, and many lives were lost. The authorities are being extra careful this time.
