A district court in Bagaha has delivered a significant verdict in a murder case that has shocked the local community. The court sentenced a woman named Neha, also known as Nurjahan, to life imprisonment for killing her husband, Manoj. This case is particularly notable because the legal proceedings were concluded very quickly. The trial was finished in approximately 30 days under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) laws, setting an example for speedy justice in the state.

What evidence led to the conviction?

The prosecution, led by Additional Public Prosecutor Jitendra Bharti, presented strong evidence before the court of District and Additional Sessions Judge-IV, Manvendra Mishra. The most crucial piece of evidence was a video statement recorded by the victim, Manoj, right before he died. in this dying declaration, he explicitly named his wife as the attacker who stabbed him. Additionally, the police recovered the knife used in the crime and the victim’s mother also testified in court. These factors left no doubt regarding the crime.

What is the full sentence given by the court?

The court has handed down a sentence of life imprisonment with hard labor (Sashram Karavas) to Neha. Along with the jail term, a fine of Rs 1,00,000 has been imposed on her. The judge clearly stated that if the convict fails to pay this fine, she will have to serve an additional six months in prison. The incident originally occurred on the night of June 23, 2025, in the Dhanaha police station area, and the final verdict was delivered swiftly in February 2026.
