Kaimur Police achieved a significant breakthrough on Friday by intercepting an illegal arms consignment in Bhabua. Acting on a specific tip-off, officers stopped a passenger bus coming from Adhaura and discovered two country-made rifles. The smugglers had cleverly hidden the weapons inside sacks of potatoes to avoid detection during routine checks on the public bus.
How did the police catch the smugglers?
Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla stated that the department had been receiving intelligence about arms smuggling from the Adhaura hill region for several days. A special team led by SDPO Manoranjan Bharti set up a checkpoint near Sivo on the southern border of the city. During the search of the bus, the police found the rifles concealed within potato sacks. This operation highlights the challenge security forces face as smugglers use public transport and common household goods to move illegal weapons across the district.
Who has been arrested in this connection?
The police arrested Kuber Ram, a resident of Amadhi village, on the spot. He is a known offender with a history of operating illegal mini-gun factories and was previously arrested in 2024. During interrogation, Kuber Ram named Jokhan Singh, a local BJP leader and former Mukhiya of Barav, as an associate involved in the racket. Following this confession, the police arrested Jokhan Singh. While the police continue their investigation to trace the manufacturing unit, local BJP leadership has called for a fair probe, stating that naming someone does not automatically prove their guilt.
