The Bihar government has sanctioned a massive budget of over ₹74,000 crore to transform the state infrastructure. Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal officially presented this mega plan in the Bihar Assembly during the budget session on February 10, 2026. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that residents from any district can reach the capital city, Patna, within a maximum of 4 hours.
Key Expressway and Corridor Projects
The state government has finalized the roadmap for five major expressways that will connect different regions of Bihar. These include the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway passing through four districts and the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway connecting North Bihar. Other major routes include the Patna-Purnia, Raxaul-Haldia, and Buxar-Bhagalpur expressways. Additionally, the government has requested approval from the central government for two greenfield corridors: the Pashupatinath-Baidyanath Corridor and the Narayani-Ganga Corridor.
New Bridges and Maintenance Strategy
A total of 12 new bridges will be constructed across the Ganga, Kosi, Sone, and Gandak rivers to improve connectivity. This includes significant projects like the 6-lane bridge at Matihani-Shamho and a new 4-lane bridge near Valmiki Tiger Reserve. To maintain the existing 19,353 km of state highways, a new maintenance policy will be implemented from early 2026. This policy will allow citizens to report road damage through a mobile app with photo evidence for time-bound repairs.
