The Bihar government has intensified its crackdown on revenue officers and employees who have been on strike since February 11, 2026. Following the orders of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, the administration has started appointing alternative officers to manage blocks where work has stalled. In Supaul district, DM Sawan Kumar has assigned 10 alternative Circle Officers to handle public complaints and financial duties to ensure that essential services are not permanently disrupted.

What are the key demands and reasons behind the strike?

The revenue personnel under the Bihar State Land Reform Employees Union have placed a 17-point demand list before the government. Their primary concerns include:

  • Increasing the grade pay to 2800 rupees (Level-5) as per previous agreements.
  • Provision of basic office tools like laptops, printers, and high-speed internet.
  • Implementation of home district transfer policies for employees.
  • Simplification of the land mutation and registration processes.
  • Opposition to the new Sub-Division Revenue Officer post which affects promotion tracks.

How is the Bihar government handling the situation?

The state government has taken several steps to break the deadlock and minimize public inconvenience. The Revenue Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has made it clear that the government will not bow down to unreasonable demands. Key actions include:

  • Issuing show-cause notices to 69 revenue officers for unauthorized absence.
  • Setting a final deadline of April 13, 2026, for explanation, failing which dismissal procedures will start.
  • Directing all District Magistrates to ensure every block office is functional by April 1, 2026.
  • Hiring retired officers and providing double charges to existing non-striking staff to clear the backlog of 46 lakh pending files.
