A distressing case has emerged from West Champaran, Bihar, where a young man who went to Oman for employment is now languishing in a foreign jail. The family of the youth has made an emotional appeal for help, specifically turning to Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor. This incident highlights the ongoing struggles of migrant workers from Bihar who travel abroad for better opportunities but often face legal hurdles.

What happened to the youth from Bettiah?

The young man from Bettiah had traveled to Oman with hopes of securing a job to support his family. However, reports indicate that he faced significant issues regarding his employment contract or visa status, which led to his detention in an Oman jail. The family alleges that he went there for honest work but got trapped in legal complications.

A video of the family’s plea has surfaced, where they are seen crying and asking for urgent assistance. The incident was brought to light by social media influencer and Jan Suraaj leader Manish Kashyap, who visited the family to amplify their voice.

How is the family seeking government intervention?

The family believes that political intervention is necessary to bring their son back. They have requested Prashant Kishor to use his influence to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Oman. Following this appeal, local Jan Suraaj units in West Champaran have started gathering the necessary documents.

These documents will be forwarded to the Indian authorities to establish contact with the jailed youth. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has provisions to provide consular access and legal aid to Indian nationals in such distress, provided the case is formally registered.
