Six workers were killed and several others severely injured in a devastating explosion at a sponge iron factory in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar-Bhatapara district. The incident, which occurred at the Real Ispat Sponge Iron Factory, has prompted a high-level inquiry into industrial safety standards across the region.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The explosion took place at the Real Ispat Sponge Iron Factory located in Bakulahi village of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district on January 22. Initial investigations suggested that the blast originated from either the coal furnace or the dust settling chamber (DSC) of the plant. This caused hot ash and burning materials to fall on the workers, leading to fatal injuries for six of them. Five other workers sustained serious injuries and were transferred to Bilaspur for advanced medical treatment.
Chief Minister Orders Probe and Assistance
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “extremely tragic and heartbreaking.” He directed officials to ensure all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and provide the best possible treatment to the injured. The Chief Minister also ordered a factual investigation into the causes of the accident and emphasized that any negligence in adhering to industrial safety standards would not be tolerated.
