The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has received approval to extend the Magenta Line from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha with a 9.913 km underground stretch. The Union Cabinet approved this extension in late December 2025.

New Stations and Strategic Connectivity

Nine new stations will be added through this extension, connecting major government, historical and commercial areas of Delhi. The stations include Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. These will provide access to the Supreme Court, Patiala House Court, National Green Tribunal and the new Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum.

Project Cost and Timeline

The project cost stands at Rs 9,570.4 crore. Construction is expected to be completed within three years from approval. This extension will make the Magenta Line Delhi’s longest metro line at 76.6 km with 56 stations total.

Traffic and Environmental Benefits

The extension aims to reduce traffic congestion, save travel time and ease commuter movement across central Delhi. It will also contribute to lower pollution levels as fewer vehicles will be needed on roads.
