Winter in Himachal Pradesh has intensified, blocking over 835 roads across the state due to heavy snow. Tourists visiting Manali, Mussoorie, and Nainital are facing severe difficulties. In Manali alone, a 5-kilometer traffic jam was reported on January 27, leaving hundreds stranded without food and water for hours.

Which areas are on high alert?

The Weather Department has issued an orange alert for Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti. Heavy snowfall is expected to continue in these regions. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel to high-altitude areas.

What is the status of National Highways?

The Manali-Leh National Highway is blocked. On the Chandigarh-Manali highway, the road is clear only for light vehicles up to Solang Nala. Buses are not allowed beyond Patlikuhal to prevent further jams.

How is the administration helping?

The administration is working with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to clear snow. However, in areas with 2-3 feet of snow, progress is slow. Police teams are on the ground 24/7 to help stuck tourists and ensure safety.
