A heartbreaking incident has occurred in the Nampally area of Hyderabad. A massive fire broke out in a furniture shop, claiming the lives of five people. The bodies were recovered from the basement of the building after a long and difficult 22-hour rescue operation by the police and fire department. The victims died due to suffocation from the thick smoke.
How did the fire start?
The fire started around 1 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, near the Nampally Railway Station. It took place in a four-storey building known as Sai Vishwas Furniture Castle. The fire services used skylifts and robots to control the blaze, which took about 6 to 8 hours. However, the heat and smoke were so intense that rescue teams could not enter immediately.
Who lost their lives in this accident?
Sadly, five people were trapped inside and could not escape. The victims included workers and a family that was staying there. Two young children were also among those who lost their lives.
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Mohammed Imtiyaz | 27 Years, Worker |
| Syed Habeeb | 28 Years, Auto Driver |
| Beban Bee | 55 Years, Elderly Woman |
| Akhil | 11 Years, Child |
| Praneeth | 7 Years, Child |
Why did it take 22 hours to find the bodies?
Although the fire was controlled by Saturday evening, the basement was filled with dangerous smoke. The shop had stored highly flammable items like foam, plastic, and chemicals, which created toxic fumes. The rescue team had to wait for the smoke to clear. The bodies were finally retrieved on Sunday morning, January 25, and shifted to Osmania Hospital.
What rules were violated by the shop owner?
Officials have found serious negligence in the building. The basement was strictly meant for vehicle parking, but the owner used it to store furniture and as living quarters for workers. There were no proper fire safety measures installed. The ramp was also blocked by materials, making escape impossible.
What action is the government taking?
The police have filed a case against the shop owner for negligence and violating safety norms. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and other officials visited the site. The government has assured assistance to the grieving families of the victims.
