Vikassheel Insaan Party workers led by Mukesh Sahani held a large protest at the Muzaffarpur SSP office regarding the death of Pappu Sahani. The party chief met the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kantesh Kumar Mishra, and alleged that the local police carried out a fake encounter. The protesters wore black bands on their arms as a sign of mourning and dissent against the police action.
What are the demands of Mukesh Sahani
Mukesh Sahani issued a strict 30-day ultimatum to the administration. He announced that if a fair and impartial investigation is not completed within this time frame, his party will launch a massive state-wide agitation across Bihar. The VIP leader is demanding financial compensation and a government job for the family members of the deceased. He claimed that Pappu Sahani had left the world of crime years ago and was peacefully running a tea shop to support his family. He further mentioned that his community is being targeted and harassed by local authorities.
Police statement on the encounter incident
The Muzaffarpur police provided a different account of the February 17 events. Officials stated that a police team had gone to arrest Pappu Sahani, who was an alleged leader of an ATM fraud gang. According to the police records, the accused had approximately 50 cases of cyber and ATM fraud registered against him across North Bihar. During the arrest attempt, he allegedly opened fire and injured Assistant Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar in the stomach. The police fired in self-defense, hitting Pappu in the leg, and he died eight hours later during treatment at a local hospital.
