A family in Govindpur, Nawada, has reported a serious irregularity regarding their domestic gas supply. The Ujjwala Yojana beneficiary claimed that their LPG cylinder contained water, which led to the gas running out within 17 days of use. A preliminary investigation into the cylinder reportedly confirmed the presence of water, raising questions about the distribution process in the region.

What are the official complaint channels for LPG consumers?

Consumers who face issues such as underweight cylinders, water in gas, or overcharging can reach out to the authorities through established grievance cells. The government provides multiple toll-free numbers and digital platforms for quick resolution of such complaints.

  • General Helpline: Call 1800 2333 555 or 1800 266 6696 for regular complaints.
  • Emergency Helpline: Dial 1906 for reporting gas leaks or safety hazards.
  • District Administration: Consumers can approach the District Magistrate office for serious irregularities or illegal hoarding.
  • OMC Portals: Grievances can be registered directly on the websites of Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, or HP Gas.

Current rules and monitoring in Bihar

The Nawada district administration has recently increased monitoring of gas agencies to prevent illegal practices and hoarding. District Magistrate Ravi Prakash held meetings earlier this month to ensure that consumers receive adequate supply without facing extortion or fake products. Under the current policy, Ujjwala beneficiaries are entitled to a subsidy of Rs. 300 per cylinder for up to 12 refills annually during the 2025-26 fiscal year.
