Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is officially changing his residential address after nearly two decades. The veteran leader is moving from the iconic 1 Ane Marg, which has been the power center of Bihar, to 7 Circular Road. This significant shift comes shortly after he filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on March 5, 2026. Security has been increased at both locations to manage the transition smoothly as supporters gather to witness this change.

Why is Nitish Kumar changing his house now?

The decision to vacate the official Chief Minister’s residence follows Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha. He has become the first leader in Bihar to transition to the Upper House while serving as the Chief Minister. This move signals a major change in the state’s political landscape.

Reports indicate that this shift is part of a planned succession. His son, Nishant Kumar, is set to enter active politics on March 8, with speculations about him taking up a significant role. Senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are reportedly involved in meetings regarding these new administrative arrangements.

What facilities will be available at 7 Circular Road?

The bungalow at 7 Circular Road is a VVIP-category property known for its high-level security and earthquake-resistant construction. Nitish Kumar is entitled to Z+ security, a dedicated pilot escort team, and free medical and utility services at this new location. This residence is quite familiar to him as he has lived here previously.

He stayed at this address in 2014 after stepping down for Jitan Ram Manjhi and again in 2022 during renovations at 1 Ane Marg. Many believe he considers the number ‘7’ lucky for his political career. The move marks the end of a long era at 1 Ane Marg and the beginning of a new chapter for the JDU leader.
