Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, was granted bail on Tuesday by the Special MP-MLA Court in Patna. This decision comes in relation to a 31-year-old case registered in 1995. The Member of Parliament was brought to the court premises from Beur Jail under heavy security arrangements. The hearing, which was originally scheduled for Monday, took place on February 10 after a delay caused by a security alert at the court complex.
Details of the 1995 Case Against Pappu Yadav
The case dates back to 1995 and was registered at the Gardanibagh Police Station in Patna. It involves charges under IPC Section 467, which deals with forgery of valuable security, and other sections related to criminal conspiracy. The dispute began when a complainant named Vinod Bihari Lal alleged that Yadav and his associates rented a residential room but fraudulently converted it into a political office without permission.
Police action was taken recently because the MP failed to appear in court repeatedly for this old matter. His previous bail was cancelled in July 2025, leading to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant. This legal process resulted in his arrest late Friday night on February 6, 2026, at his Mandiri residence in Patna.
Court Appearance and Health Issues
Pappu Yadav arrived at the Patna Civil Court in a wheelchair, citing poor health conditions. Following his arrest, he had been briefly admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) as his health declined during the custody process. He was later sent to judicial custody for 14 days before this bail hearing took place.
The bail hearing faced an unexpected delay of 24 hours. It was supposed to happen on February 9 but was postponed due to an email bomb threat that led to the evacuation of the entire Patna Civil Court complex. On Tuesday, the court finally heard the matter and granted relief to the six-time MP.
