Commuters in Patna can look forward to a smoother ride near AIIMS in the near future. A new four-lane road connecting the Patna Ring Road to AIIMS Golambar is currently under construction to solve chronic traffic issues. Officials have confirmed that this project is scheduled to open to the public by January 2027. District Magistrate Dr. Tyagrajan SM recently visited the site to inspect the progress and ensure the work finishes on time.
What is the Route and Cost of the New Road?
The new road spans a total length of 10.5 kilometers. It starts from AIIMS Golambar and passes through Janipur and Painapur before connecting to Neva on the Patna Ring Road. The government has allocated ₹138.50 crore for widening and strengthening the road. Additionally, ₹73.06 crore is being spent on bridge and flyover construction. A key feature is the new flyover at Naubatpur Lakh, which is being built to separate heavy commercial vehicles from local traffic.
How Will This Benefit Common People?
This project aims to make Western Patna completely free from traffic jams. Once operational, people traveling from Bihta or Daniyawan can reach AIIMS much faster. It also provides a direct link to North Bihar through the JP Ganga Path, allowing travelers from Gaya and Aurangabad to bypass the crowded city areas. To prevent waterlogging, the administration has mandated the construction of box drains on both sides of the road.
Current Status and Inspection Updates
As of February 2026, approximately 32% of the construction work is complete. During his field inspection on Wednesday, the District Magistrate reviewed the base strengthening and drain construction work. He has instructed all officials and agencies, including the Road Construction Department, to speed up the process. The goal is to meet the January 2027 deadline without any delays to provide relief to the public.
