The Bihar government has announced a major move to reclaim government property in the capital city. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced in the Legislative Council that 25 acres of land in Patna will be freed from illegal occupation. The administration has set a strict deadline of one to one and a half months to complete this task. This land belongs to the Bihar State Housing Co-operative Federation Limited and has been under encroachment for some time.

Where is the land located and what is the action plan?

The land identified for this drive is located in the Pataliputra circle, specifically near the Ashiana-Digha road. This area falls under the jurisdiction of Rajeev Nagar and Digha police stations. The issue was raised in the house by MLCs who were concerned about illegal structures on government property.

To execute this order, the Patna District Magistrate (DM) has been given clear instructions to start the recovery process immediately. A specialized team has already been formed to carry out land measurements and fix the boundaries. The government is committed to clearing this 25-acre plot within the next 45 days.

New rules for absconding criminals and Ethanol update

Apart from land issues, the government shared important updates on law and order. Bihar has become the first state in India to begin trials against accused persons who are absconding (running away from the law). Under the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a court in Gopalganj recently delivered a sentence in just 17 days. The Home Department will now run a public awareness campaign about this so criminals know they cannot escape justice by hiding.

On the industrial front, there is good news for farmers and factory owners. The Central Government has agreed to increase Bihar’s ethanol quota. This decision ensures that all 11 existing and 8 upcoming ethanol plants in the state will continue to run without stopping.

Updates on local police cases and fire safety

The Minister also responded to questions regarding specific local issues. Regarding the case of Tej Pratap, a resident of Punaichak who has been missing for eight years, the government stated that police teams have extended their search as far as Mumbai. Instructions have been issued for a speedy resolution.

Another concern raised was the lack of a fire department office in the densely populated Pataliputra Colony. The government has assured that they will review this matter and take a decision soon to ensure the safety of residents in the area.
