The Patna Metro project achieved a major milestone on Thursday with a successful trial run on the extended section of the Priority Corridor. Engineers from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) tested the track between Bhootnath and Malahi Pakri stations on February 26, 2026. This development clears the path for opening two new stations—Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak—shortly after the Holi festival.

When Will the New Stations Open?

Officials are targeting the first week of March 2026 for the public launch, immediately following Holi. Before the gates open for daily commuters, a final safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will take place in early March. Once this approval is granted, the operational length of the elevated Blue Line will increase to approximately 6.6 km, connecting Patliputra ISBT directly to Malahi Pakri.

Ticket Prices and Operating Hours

Commuters can expect the following fare structure and timing details once the new stretch becomes operational:

  • Short Distance Fare: Travels under 3 km will cost ₹15.
  • Full Route Fare: The fare for the extended distance is expected to be ₹30.
  • Timings: Trains will run daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
  • Frequency: A train will be available roughly every 20 minutes.

Automated ticket vending machines are being installed at all stations to facilitate easy booking via cash, QR codes, or cards.

Facilities at Khemnichak and Malahi Pakri

The expansion is designed to ease traffic congestion in the Kankerbagh and Bypass Road areas. Khemnichak station is being built as a significant three-story interchange hub, which will eventually link the Blue Line with the Red Line. For residents using personal vehicles to reach the metro, a dedicated parking facility is being developed on land behind the Malahi Pakri station. Regular metro services on the existing ISBT to Bhootnath route, which were briefly paused for the trial, have resumed normal operations as of today, February 27.
