Patna Police has seized a significant amount of cash during a routine vehicle check on JP Setu. In a midnight operation between February 19 and 20, officers recovered ₹18.05 lakh from a private vehicle. The driver could not explain the source of the funds, leading to immediate seizure under legal protocols. This action highlights the ongoing strict vigilance in the city.

Details of the Midnight Operation

Acting on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the Digha Police Station team was conducting intensive checks to track absconding criminals. During this drive, a suspicious vehicle was stopped on the Jai Prakash Setu. Upon inspection, the police team discovered bundles of cash totaling ₹18,05,000 inside the car.

SDPO Divyanjali Jaiswal confirmed that the police are maintaining high vigilance across key transit points. This operation is part of a broader campaign to curb illegal movement and maintain law and order in the region. Similar checks are being conducted regularly to ensure safety.

What Happens to the Seized Money?

When questioned, the vehicle driver failed to provide a satisfactory answer or valid documents regarding the cash. As per the rules for large cash recoveries without proof, the police have seized the entire amount. The Income Tax Department has been officially notified to take the case forward.

The tax officials will now investigate the legitimate source of these funds and check for potential tax evasion. Until a valid explanation and proof are submitted to the authorities, the cash will remain in custody. This follows a similar incident recently where over ₹12 lakh was seized in the same area.
