A 16-year-old student from Pattishital village was found dead in a water-filled pit on March 11, 2026. The incident took place under the Derni Police Station area in Saran district. Her body was discovered near her old house just a few hours after she went missing. This case has now taken a major turn with the state government ordering a specialized investigation by the Crime Investigation Department.
The Legal Action and Forensic Status
The police filed an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act involving charges of murder and gang rape. They have arrested one person named Yuvraj Kumar who reportedly confessed to being at the spot. Four other men named in the case are currently hiding from the police. Even though the initial medical report mentions the cause of death as drowning, the police have sent forensic samples including blood and fingernails to the lab in Muzaffarpur to check for any signs of sexual assault.
Political Intervention for Justice
Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy met with Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary to discuss the details of this case. Rudy pointed out that the family claims and the police report had many discrepancies. Following this meeting, the Home Minister authorized a CID probe on March 17 to ensure a deeper look into the incident. The local administration has also increased police presence in the area to handle social tensions and ensure the situation remains under control while the specialized team takes over the investigation.
