A tragic accident occurred at Badh railway station under the Danapur railway division where a 55-year-old man lost his life after being hit by the Patna-Howrah Vande Bharat Express. Sanjay Raut, a resident of Shahabad in Nalanda district, was struck by the high-speed train on Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. The incident was captured on video and went viral on social media, which eventually helped the family identify the deceased on Thursday morning after they saw the footage.

How did the accident happen at Badh station?

Sanjay Raut was deaf and mute from birth. He had left his home on Tuesday to visit his in-laws in the Saksohara police station area. While he was at Platform No. 2 of Badh station, he reportedly leaned over the platform edge to spit tobacco. At the same time, the Patna-Howrah Vande Bharat Superfast Express (Train No. 22348) was passing through the station at a high speed. The train does not have a scheduled stop at this station and was maintaining its transit pace.

Witnesses stated that people on the platform shouted and the loco pilot sounded continuous horns to alert the man. However, due to his hearing impairment, he could not hear the warnings and was struck by the engine. He sustained severe head injuries in the impact and was immediately attended to by railway authorities. He was later shifted for treatment to Patna where he passed away.

Official investigation and safety advisory

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) took charge of the situation at the station. The GRP at Barh has registered a case of unnatural death and conducted a post-mortem before handing the body over to the relatives for the final rites. Railway officials mentioned that preliminary findings suggest the incident was an accident caused by standing too close to the tracks in an unsafe proximity.
