Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived at the historic Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram in Narkatiaganj on Saturday. This visit is recorded as the first time a Vice President has visited this Satyagraha site in West Champaran. During the visit, he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi. The local administration and security agencies were on high alert to ensure the smooth conduct of the scheduled program.
Key Highlights of the Vice President’s Visit
The Vice President reached the ashram at 3:05 PM and spent about 70 minutes observing the historical site. He visited the original hut of Mahatma Gandhi along with the museum and the prayer hall. Local officials and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) managed the arrangements while the Vice President interacted with the authorities regarding the preservation of the museum. The visit concluded with his departure by helicopter at 4:15 PM.
Security and Administrative Arrangements
- The entire Bhitiharwa area was converted into a security fortress under Z-plus protocol
- Three helipads were prepared and trial runs were conducted by the Indian Air Force
- Deployment of police, paramilitary forces, dog squads, and bomb disposal units was seen across the route
- DM Taranjot Singh and SP Dr. Shaurya Suman conducted joint inspections to review the security grid
- The link road from Narkatiaganj was illuminated and decorated for the high-profile visit
