Dheeraj Kumar from Madhepura, Bihar is now focusing on vegetable and fruit production instead of traditional farming. Lodhay Mandal, a resident of Khada in Madhepura’s Udaquisunganj block, has cultivated Singaporean bananas in an 18-kattha field this year. Lodhay got the idea of banana farming from Bhagalpur. Four years ago, when he went to Navgachhia, he brought banana saplings from there and started with a 6-kattha field. Today, he is cultivating bananas in almost one acre of land and earning good profits compared to traditional crops.

Lodhay started with a 6-kattha field for banana farming, which has gradually increased every year. Now, he is cultivating bananas in an 18-kattha field, and the area can further expand in the future. He says that the banana farming is growing steadily. If the profit is better this year, he plans to expand the banana farming to one and a half acres next year.

Lodhay shared that he got the idea of banana farming from Bhagalpur. While selling vegetables in the Bhagalpur market, he met a farmer from Navgachhia and started banana farming. Currently, he is cultivating Singaporean bananas in an 18-kattha field. He mentioned that Singaporean bananas have the advantage of being easily sold from religious ceremonies to festivals. The rates are also good. Around 50-60 thousand rupees are spent on one acre of land for cultivation, and the profit can easily reach up to 3-4 lakhs. The bananas are bought by traders from Singheshwar, Saharsa, and Khagaria based on the demand for consumption.
