7th Pay Commission: Uttar Pradesh Government Plans to Increase DA for Employees

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is planning to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees before Diwali. According to media reports, the Yogi Adityanath government is considering a 4% hike in DA for state government employees. However, the approval of the Chief Minister is still pending. If the announcement for the DA increase is made, it will benefit more than 12 lakh teachers and over 7 lakh pensioners of the UP government.

DA to be Implemented from July After State Cabinet Approval

After receiving the approval of the state cabinet, the DA increment is expected to be implemented from July. Earlier, on May 15, the Yogi Adityanath government had approved an increase in the DA. The decision was made to raise the DA from January 2023.

Recent DA Hikes by Other States

The central government recently increased the DA for employees from 42% to 46%. The Rajasthan government also announced a 4% increase in DA before the upcoming elections. As a result, the present DA has now been raised from 42% to 46% in Rajasthan as well. The Election Commission has also approved a 4% DA increase for government employees in the state.

Benefit to Government Employees

The decision of the Rajasthan government will benefit more than 8 lakh employees and 4 lakh pensioners in the state. For example, if an employee’s basic salary is Rs. 10,000, they will now receive Rs. 4,600 as DA, compared to the previous amount of Rs. 4,200.

  • Haryana government recently announced a 4% increase in DA for its employees, following the central government’s directive. The DA for government employees in Haryana has now been raised from 42% to 46%.
  • Odisha, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu have also announced DA hikes for their government employees before Diwali. Some states have increased DA by 3%, while others have increased it by 4%.
