Mahindra Thar 5-Door: End of Long Test Sessions
Mahindra & Mahindra have recently concluded the long test sessions for their Thar Lifestyle off-road SUV’s 5-door variant, indicating a market launch. While Mahindra has not yet disclosed the official launch date and details, it is expected that the Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV could be launched around the first quarter of 2024. The company plans to introduce it in competition with the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, whose price ranges between 12.74 lakh and 15.05 lakh rupees. The price of the base variant and top-end variant of the Mahindra 5-door Thar is expected to be between 15 lakh and 16 lakh rupees respectively.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door Design
The design and styling of Thar 5-door has been kept similar to the existing 3-door model. Some major changes include a redesigned front grill, LED projector headlamps, and an updated fog lamp assembly. Apart from new alloy wheels, the side profile will largely remain the same, with a pillar-mounted rear door handle and updated taillamp cluster at the rear.

New spy images hint at some significant changes in the Mahindra Thar 5-door. The SUV features amenities like an electrically adjustable single-pane sunroof, a lightweight shade theme, roof-mounted speakers, an updated center console, a touchscreen infotainment system, a new front armrest, and a rear parking camera to increase comfort and attraction.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door Powertrain
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to offer a choice of 2.0 liter turbo petrol and 2.2 liter turbo diesel engines. The petrol engine is expected to produce 200bhp with a torque value of 370Nm to 380Nm. The diesel engine will be available in two configurations, generating 172bhp with 370Nm to 400Nm, and 130bhp with 300Nm. Both engine options will come with the choice of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. You will also have the option to choose a 4X4 or 4X2 drivetrain system.
