Neeraj Kumar/Begusarai: Encouraging Youth Participation in Sports
Efforts have been made for a long time to promote extensive participation of youth in the field of sports in the country. Initiatives like the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme, and National Talent Search Scheme aim to ensure effective implementation of sports-related initiatives under the name “Khelo India”. Bihar has now established the Bihar Excellence Center in the state capital of Patna for Bharat Khelkud. Approximately 170 athletes from Bihar participated, with eight athletes from Begusarai being selected.
Begusarai Athletes Shine in Selection Trials
Bihar’s coach Bhupati Gautam revealed that all eight selected athletes from Begusarai have been chosen for the Bihar Excellence Center. These athletes will not only represent their district but also the state at the national level. Notably, girls from Begusarai are excelling in sports, with around 170 athletes from the state participating. After the selection trials, five girls and three boys from Begusarai were chosen to represent Bihar in various weight categories.
Future Prospects for Selected Athletes
The selected athletes will be trained and mentored by the Bihar Sports Authority’s Director-General IPS Shankaran and newly appointed Chief Coach Dronacharya Hansa Sharma. The government will provide assistance to these athletes for training, accommodation, meals, and other related expenses. This marks a significant step towards nurturing sports talent at the grassroots level in Bihar.
