Begusarai, known for hardcore crimes, has now topped the list of most polluted cities in the world. A recent report revealed that Begusarai has an average PM 2.5 density of 118.9 micrograms per cubic meter, making it the most polluted city globally. The district administration has started taking steps to control air pollution, but according to locals, it may be too little, too late.
Responsibility of Municipal Corporation
Residents of Begusarai hold the Municipal Corporation responsible for the increasing air pollution. They claim that the Municipal Corporation collects garbage from the streets but leaves it on the roadsides, leading to burning of waste. The constant dust in the air is causing health issues, with cases of skin diseases and respiratory problems on the rise.
Efforts to Combat Pollution
Farmers in Begusarai are burning crop residue, adding to the pollution levels in the district. Waste management units are openly burning garbage from rural areas to urban zones. Despite the rising health risks, there is a lack of special efforts to control emissions, leading to concerns of untimely deaths due to air pollution.
