Bhagalpur: Smart City Status Still Elusive

Despite receiving funding and implementing various projects under the Smart City initiative for almost 8 years, Bhagalpur has not been able to achieve the status of a smart city. Many projects, including the installation of e-toilets, have been carried out, but some have been ineffective and are now in a deteriorating state.

Issues with E-Toilets in Bhagalpur

Several e-toilets were constructed in Bhagalpur, but many remain non-functional or have failed shortly after being put into operation. The lack of awareness among residents about the functioning of these toilets has also contributed to their poor maintenance. Vendors in the area have reported that the e-toilets are often locked and inaccessible, causing inconvenience to the public.

Costly E-Toilets Fail to Serve the Public

Despite the considerable cost of approximately 2.5 crores to build e-toilets in Bhagalpur, these facilities have largely been ineffective and poorly maintained. Moreover, key market areas in the city do not have a single public toilet, highlighting the failure of the Smart City initiative to prioritize essential amenities for residents and visitors.
