Despite heavy opposition, the competency exam to grant state employee status to appointed teachers in Bihar has begun today. The first round of exams has already concluded in 52 exam centers across 9 districts of Bihar. Teachers started arriving at the exam centers from 9 am. One teacher, Manoj Kumar Singh, mentioned that the challenge is not in taking the exam but in proving their capability after years of teaching.
Government Decision
One teacher, who is going to appear in the competency exam, expressed concern that while they can answer questions related to the syllabus, they may face difficulty with questions that are out of context. Another teacher, Manoj Kumar, stated that the government wants to embarrass them, despite passing the BPSC TRE 1 and TRE 2 exams. This decision by the government is unfortunate as the questions in the exam were found to be more difficult than the BPSC exams.
Exam Schedule
The competency exam, which started today, will continue until March 6th. The exam is being conducted in two rounds, with the first round taking place from 10 am to 12:30 pm and the second round from 3 pm to 5 pm. For differently-abled teachers, the first round will be from 10 am to 1:20 pm and the second round from 3 pm to 6:20 pm. The exam is being conducted online, with thorough checks being conducted at the entry to the center.
