Budget Session Amid Opposition Protest
The seven-day budget session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly started on Friday amidst protests from the opposition. As soon as the proceedings began at 11.07 am, BJP and AJSU legislators created a ruckus demanding a CBI probe into the leaking of the JSSC CGLE exam papers. Amidst the chaos, Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Oraon presented a supplementary budget of Rs 4,981 crore for 2023-24.
Opposition Demand for CBI Probe
BJP MLA Amit Mandal questioned Speaker Rabindranath Mahato about the JSSC paper leak issue. The Speaker stated that the matter will be discussed in the ongoing session. However, BJP legislators continued to create chaos. All legislators were demanding a CBI investigation. AJSU MLA Laxman Mahato also demanded an investigation. Opposition legislators displayed placards demanding a CBI investigation and protested against the state government.
Opposition Leaders’ Statements
Opposition leader Amar Bauri stated that despite the government bringing in laws to prevent cheating in job exams, paper leaks still occurred. He stressed the need for a CBI investigation into the matter. MLA Pradeep Yadav emphasized the seriousness of the paper leak issue and called for strict action by the government. Speaker urged the protesting legislators to return to their seats. The session lasted for about 40 minutes and was adjourned until 26th February to pay tribute to deceased individuals from various fields.
SIT Conducting Impartial Investigation
Chief Minister Hemant Soren responded to the opposition’s demand for a CBI probe into the JSSC CGLE paper leak by stating that it is unnecessary. He assured reporters outside the House that the SIT is conducting an impartial investigation and action will be taken soon. He urged the opposition to remain patient and stated that similar incidents have occurred in other states as well. He emphasized that the state government is taking the matter seriously and no changes have been made to the budget session.
झारखंड विधानसभा का सात दिनी बजट सत्र शुक्रवार को विपक्ष के हंगामे के बीच शुरू हुआ। भाजपा और आजसू विधायक मामले की सीबीआई जांच की मांग करते हुए हंगामे करने लगे। वित्त मंत्री ने 4,981 करोड़ का तीसरा अनुपूरक बजट पेश किया। सदन में विपक्ष ने जांच की मांग की और मुख्यमंत्री ने एसआईटी निष्पक्षता से जांच की वजह से विपक्ष को धैर्य रखने की अपील की।
