Congress Announces Candidates in Jharkhand
Congress announced candidates for three seats in Jharkhand on Wednesday amidst ongoing discussions among the key parties in India. Kalicharan Munda has been named as the candidate from Khunti. Jay Prakash Bhai Patel, who recently joined Congress from BJP, will contest from Hazaribagh, and former party president Sukhdev Bhagat will be the candidate from Lohardaga.
Seat Allocation Discussions in Progress
After a meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the party’s National Secretary, K.C. Venugopal, announced the names of the candidates. Discussions took place with various party leaders from Jharkhand, including Gulam Ahmad Mir, Rajesh Thakur, and Alamgir Alam. The remaining candidate names are expected to be announced in the next one or two days.
Suspense on Ranchi Seat
While candidates have been finalized for three seats in Jharkhand, the Ranchi seat remains undecided. Suspend Kant Sahay has been a candidate from Ranchi since 2004, winning in 2004 and 2009 but losing in 2014 and 2019. The competition for the ticket from Ranchi has increased, with several contenders vying for it, including Ramtahal Choudhary, Dr. Amar Kumar Choudhary, and Keshav Mahato Kamlesh Bhai.
Coalition Partners Engage in Seat-sharing Talks
While Congress has finalized candidates for three seats in Jharkhand, discussions on seat sharing among coalition partners are ongoing. The Mahagathbandhan constituents are making their claims, with RJD asserting its claim on the Chatra-Palamu seat. Congress is finalizing its candidates while JMM and RJD are still negotiating the seat allocation. JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya stated that the seat distribution in India has not been finalized technically, while RJD State President Sanjay Yadav claimed that their party’s candidates are strong contenders for the Palamu and Chatra seats.
