Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED conducted questioning with Sahu on both Saturday and Sunday regarding a money laundering case. Sahu, a leader of the Congress party, had a large sum of cash seized from his house in December by the Income Tax department. During the raid, he was found with Rs 351.8 crore, which was confiscated.
The ED is investigating Sahu in connection with alleged land fraud and money laundering. On Saturday, Sahu arrived at the ED office in Ranchi at 11 am and was questioned continuously until 10 pm before leaving. According to the ED, the questioning regarding the alleged land fraud and money laundering case could not be completed on Saturday, so Sahu has been summoned again for further questioning. The ED officials are also questioning Sahu about his alleged connections with Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and a luxury car, which has been seized.
After coming out of the ED office, Sahu told the media that the investigation is only about a car and that the car does not belong to him. He denied any involvement in the cash found in the car. Hemant Soren, the CM of Jharkhand, was arrested by the ED on January 31 in connection with alleged illegal land acquisition and money laundering. Soren had resigned from the CM post before his formal arrest. He is currently in ED custody. In December, the Income Tax department had conducted a raid on Boudh Distillery Private Limited (BDPL) in Odisha and seized Rs 351.8 crore in cash. This was the biggest seizure made by the department. The promoters of the company were related to a Congress MLA. Soren has accused political agendas and vendetta behind the actions and has also alleged misuse of central agencies by the BJP.
