Lok Sabha Elections: Congress President to Start Campaign in Bihar

On the day of the first phase of voting in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will kick off his campaign in Bihar. He will address public meetings in Kishanganj and Katihar in support of the party candidates. The party has scheduled Kharge’s program in Katihar on April 19 and Rahul Gandhi’s program in Kishanganj on April 20.

Congress Bihar Leaders to Attend Campaign Events

The Congress’s Bihar in-charge Mohan Prakash and state President Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh will also participate in the campaign rallies with Kharge. Congress has been winning consistently in Kishanganj since 2009. In Katihar, Congress leader Tarique Anwar is contesting, and in Bhagalpur, Ajit Sharma is the Congress candidate.

Demand for Rally in Purnia

Sources say that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had requested a rally with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Purnia to support the RJD candidate Bima Bharati. However, due to Gandhi’s prior commitments, the rally may not take place, and he might focus on rallies in Kishanganj and Katihar instead.

2019 Election Results and Current Situation

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress contested on 9 out of 40 seats in Bihar and won only in Kishanganj. RJD contested on 19 seats but did not win any. BJP contested on 17 seats and won all 17, JDU contested on 17 and won 16, and LJP contested on 6 and won all 6. In 2024, Congress is contesting on 9 seats, RJD on 26, and other left parties on 5, focusing on social justice and welfare.
