Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Uttar Bihar, which provides treatment to around 600 patients daily, is facing a shortage of food and breakfast due to non-payment of bills. The institution has not received payment for the past seven months, resulting in difficulties in arranging meals for the patients. If the payment is not made soon, the kitchen run by Jeevika Didis (women self-help groups) may have to shut down.

According to reports, DMCH provides breakfast and meals to approximately 600 patients every day through the Jeevika Didis. However, the institution has not received payment for the past seven months. The health department and DMCH have been contacted several times regarding the payment, but no concrete result has been achieved. As a result, the Jeevika Didis, who work in the institution, have also not received their salaries for a long time.

Dr. Richa Gargi, the District Program Officer of Jeevika, stated that due to the negligence of the health department and DMCH, the institution has not received payment for the past seven months. They have sent reminders to the department through letters, urging for the payment. However, the payment has not been made yet, resulting in difficulties in providing meals to the patients and paying the salaries of the Jeevika Didis. Similar issues have occurred in the past, and payment was only made after extensive communication and administrative intervention.

Dr. Harendra Kumar, the Deputy Director of DMCH, explained that the payment for the Jeevika Didis’ kitchen was previously made by the health department. However, now the payment is supposed to come from DMCH. But since there has been no clear instruction from the department, the file is stuck. Once the department provides clear instructions, the payment will be made.
