ED files complaint against Hemant Soren in special PME Court
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a complaint against former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a special PME Court in Ranchi on Saturday. The ED has also named four other close associates of Hemant Soren as accused in the complaint. The complaint relates to a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act involving officials of the Bara Barg Circle office, including former revenue officer Bhanu Pratap, Hemant Soren’s friend Binod Singh, and others.
ED officials submit extensive documentation in Ranchi PME Court
According to news agency ANI, ED officials arrived at the special PME Court in Ranchi on Saturday with a trunk full of documents and an almost 5,500-page complaint. Previously, the ED claimed to have recovered over Rs 36 lakh in cash from Hemant Soren’s possession. The ED alleges that they have also recovered documents related to alleged land grabbing through fraudulent means.
Hemant Soren’s judicial custody extended in land scam case
Hemant Soren was arrested on January 31 in connection with the case. The special PME Court had remanded him to judicial custody until February 22, which was later extended until March 21. The court further extended his judicial custody until April 4 in the alleged money laundering case related to the land scam. Hemant Soren is currently being held at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar, Ranchi.
PMLA Court extends Hemant Soren’s custody
On March 21, the PMLA Court extended Hemant Soren’s judicial custody until April 4. Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court had dismissed his plea seeking permission to attend the Budget session of the assembly. The Enforcement Directorate alleges that the 8.5 acres of land were obtained through criminal proceeds, which the former CM had allegedly acquired.
