Bihar Education Department announces competency exams for teachers
The announcement by the Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar’s Education Department that teachers will have to take competency exams has sparked opposition and protests among teachers. In the midst of this opposition, the new Education Minister of Bihar, Vijay Chaudhary, has made a significant statement that could provide relief to teachers. Chaudhary stated that no teacher will lose their job and clarified that the government had never said that teachers would receive the status of government employees without conditions, but those who are protesting will lose their jobs, indicating that such a decision has not been made at the government level.
Government to consider recommendations and concerns of teachers, says Education Minister
Chaudhary further stated that a committee has made recommendations and submitted a report, and the government will consider the entire issue and the interests of teachers before making any decision. He emphasized that protests will not lead to any change and assured that the government will definitely listen to their concerns. He made it clear that there is no point in protesting against something on which a decision has not been made.
Government will make a thoughtful decision, no need for teachers to worry, says Education Minister
Chaudhary reassured teachers that the government will make a final decision after careful consideration and there is no need for them to worry. He acknowledged the demand of appointed teachers to eliminate the provision of optional transfers by cancelling the options of three districts in the competency exams conducted for the status of government employees. The protesting teachers also demand that the provision of options be removed for compulsory transfers and highlighted the practical difficulties in conducting online competency exams, as most appointed teachers do not have computer knowledge. They suggested that the competency exams should be conducted offline.
