Kisan’s Efforts to Protect Crops from Pests
Despite various efforts made by farmers to protect their crops from pests, some damage is inevitable. Protecting crops from pests poses a serious challenge for farmers, and the Agriculture Department has found a solution to address this issue. They recommend using pheromone trap lights, pheromone traps, and farm guards to help farmers eliminate pests damaging their crops. Ramnandan Mandal, a resident of Magdumma village in Amarapur block under Banka district, is using light pheromone traps on his 5-acre farm to protect his crops from pests.
Benefits of Using Pheromone Traps
Ramnandan Mandal explained that pheromone traps help eliminate pests that affect crops. During vegetable cultivation, the impact of fruit-sucking pests in fields often increases, leading to significant damage to vegetables. Using pheromone traps in fields is a better option to prevent damage. There are two types of traps that can be used to control pests in crops, including pheromone traps and light pheromone traps, which attract and trap male pests, leading to their destruction.
Use of Farm Guards for Pest Control
Farmers like Ramnandan Mandal use light pheromone traps to kill pests, which are solar-powered traps with bulbs that attract pests at night. Additionally, farmers use farm guards to protect beneficial insects. Farm guards are devices that attract and encourage beneficial insects to thrive in the fields, ultimately benefiting farmers and increasing production capacity. By adopting these methods, farmers can successfully protect their crops from pests and ensure a healthy yield.
