Giriraj Singh’s Assets

Central Minister Giriraj Singh, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the candidate from Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency, has declared assets worth 10.16 crore rupees in movable and immovable property. His wife also owns assets worth 4.15 crore rupees. Singh filed his nomination papers as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from the Begusarai parliamentary seat on Friday, with voting scheduled for May 13 in Bihar’s Begusarai, Darbhanga, Ujiyarpur, Samastipur, and Munger Lok Sabha seats in the fourth phase.

Details of Assets

In his affidavit submitted along with the nomination papers, Giriraj Singh declared movable assets worth 2.09 crore rupees and immovable assets worth 8.07 crore rupees. His wife’s assets include movable assets worth 1.25 crore rupees and immovable assets worth 2.90 crore rupees. The affidavit also revealed cash holdings of 1.96 lakh rupees for Singh and 1.46 lakh rupees for his wife. Singh’s movable assets include amounts deposited in two bank accounts and gold jewelry worth 1.10 lakh rupees, while his wife’s movable assets include amounts in six bank accounts, gold and silver jewelry worth 7.5 lakh rupees.

Election Details and Political Background

Giriraj Singh’s affidavit also includes ancestral property in his immovable assets. His declared income for the year 2023-2024 is 16,61,990 rupees. Singh is contesting against Avadhesh Rai, the candidate from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who is part of the Mahagathbandhan alliance. In the previous election in 2019, Giriraj Singh defeated Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, who is now contesting from the Northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency on a Congress ticket. Singh has served as the Cooperative Minister from 2005 to 2010 and as the Animal Husbandry Minister from 2010 to 2013 in the Bihar government. He became the Cabinet Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and Fisheries in May 2019 and the Cabinet Minister for Rural Development in July 2021.
