Profitable Goat Farming in Banka

Goat farming is considered as an ATM for rural areas, providing low-cost investment with high returns. From milk to meat, there is a year-round demand for goats, making it a lucrative business opportunity. Jivesh Prasad Singh, a resident of Giridhara village in the Shambhuganj block of Banka district, has successfully earned lakhs annually by raising goats with proper management and good breeds since 2017.

Diversifying Goat Breeds for Increased Earnings

Starting with a local breed in 2015, Jivesh earned two lakhs in a year, which inspired him to explore the potential of goat farming further. He gradually added Sirohi, Barbari, Black Bengal, and Beetal breeds to his farm, increasing his goat count to over 30. With careful attention to the health and growth of the goats, Jivesh now easily sells 30 to 40 goats annually, generating substantial income.

Ensuring Health and Profitability

While the Desi breed goats take 13 months to reach a marketable size, other breeds like Sirohi and Barbari mature faster, resulting in higher profits. Jivesh emphasizes the importance of regular vaccinations and a balanced diet including green fodder and grains to ensure healthy growth. With an initial investment of 2-3 thousand rupees per goat, selling Desi breed goats for 8 thousand and other breeds for 20-25 thousand rupees each, Jivesh has been able to earn over six lakhs annually by selling goats twice a year.
