**Gopalganj Lok Sabha**
Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency has not yet given women the opportunity to represent half of the population. Despite contesting several times in the Lok Sabha elections, women have not been able to secure a win. Political parties have also given them tickets, but victory has remained elusive.
**No Female Candidates in Assembly Seats**
Out of the six assembly seats in the district, women have never won in four constituencies. These include the seats of Baikunthpur, Barauli, Bhore (Reserved), and Hathua. Gopalganj assembly seat has been an exception to this trend. In the past, Kiran Rai from the Kataya assembly constituency won on a ticket from the RJD. However, the Kataya constituency no longer exists and has been merged with the Bhore assembly seat.
**Four-time Female Candidates in Gopalganj Sadar**
Women have been given the opportunity to contest four times from the Gopalganj Sadar assembly seat. In 1969, Ramdulari Sinha from the Congress was elected as the representative. She defeated Kamala Prasad Singh from the Jan Sangh. In 1971, Ramdulari Sinha won again on a Congress ticket, defeating Nageshwar Singh. In 1977, Radhika Devi won on a ticket from the Janata Party, defeating independent candidate Kali Prasad Pandey. In 2022, Kusum Devi, the wife of former minister and MLA Subhash Singh, won the by-election on a BJP ticket, defeating Mohan Prasad Gupta from the RJD.
**Jyoti Bharti in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections**
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Jyoti Bharti was the Congress candidate and was the runner-up in the Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency. BJP’s Janak Ram defeated Jyoti Bharti by a margin of 2,86,936 votes. Janak Ram received 4,78,773 votes, while Jyoti Bharti received 1,91,837 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, important parties did not field a female candidate. In the upcoming 2024 elections, there were hopes that a female candidate would be nominated in Gopalganj by the Mahagathbandhan, but this attempt was unsuccessful. The Mahagathbandhan has nominated Premanath Chanchal as their candidate in this election, while the NDA has expressed confidence in their current MP, Dr. Alok Kumar Suman.
गोपालगंज लोकसभा क्षेत्र में अब तक महिलाओं को प्रतिनिधित्व का मौका नहीं मिला है। इस क्षेत्र में चार बार महिलाओं को चुनाव में मौका मिला है, लेकिन वे जीत नहीं पाईं। 2014 में महिला प्रत्याशी ज्योति भारती उपविजेता रही थीं। इस बार के चुनाव में भी महिला प्रत्याशी को उम्मीदवार नहीं बनाया गया है। यहाँ भी महिलाओं को प्रतिनिधित्व का मौका नहीं मिला है। गोपालगंज सीट पर प्रेमनाथ चंचल और डॉक्टर आलोक कुमार सुमन उम्मीदवार बनाए गए हैं।
