Grand welcome for workers
In the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, 15 workers from Jharkhand who were rescued from the Silkyara tunnel arrived in Ranchi on Friday night. They were given a grand welcome with traditional drums and trumpets. Leaders and workers from various parties, including BJP, Congress, JMM, and CPI, welcomed the workers and their family members who escaped death at the Birsa Munda Airport. The workers were brought to Ranchi from Delhi through air route.

Warm welcome by Jharkhand Labor Minister
Jharkhand Labor Minister Satyanand Bhokta, who arrived at the airport to welcome the workers, said that the rescue of the workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel is a huge success. The government will provide full assistance to these workers. After the welcome at the Ranchi airport, the workers were taken to Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence in a special bus, where they had a conversation with him and inquired about their well-being.

Worker’s joy and gratitude
Vijay Horo, a worker from Karra in Khunti district, said that the initial three days after the tunnel accident were difficult, but after establishing contact with officials, they regained hope. Vijay is also a second-year student. He said that he could not express his happiness and it is like being born again for him.

Arrival of workers and their families
All the 15 workers residing in Uttarkashi, along with their 12 family members and state government officials, arrived at Birsa Munda Airport, as informed by Jharkhand Labor Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sharma. They had a meeting with the Chief Minister. A dinner was organized for the workers and their families at the Circuit House, where they will stay overnight. On Saturday, they will be sent to their respective villages. The health check-up of the workers was already done by AIIMS Rishikesh for 24 hours.

Appreciation and concerns raised by political leaders
BJP MP Deepak Prakash, who was present at the airport to welcome the workers, expressed his happiness that all the workers have safely reached Ranchi. He credited the success of the Silkyara tunnel operation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and central agencies. On the other hand, Congress State President Rajesh Thakur raised questions on the working system of the companies involved in projects in inaccessible areas and the safety of workers. JMM MP Mahua Moitra said, “We are glad that our workers have returned safely. The central government should ensure the protection of workers’ interests in important projects.”
