IMD Weather Update April

In some states of the country, the scorching heat continues to wreak havoc. During this time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Odisha and West Bengal. Similarly, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Bihar and Jharkhand, and a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the northern parts of Kerala along with eastern Uttar Pradesh. People have been urged not to venture out of their homes during the blistering heat of midday.

Current Weather Conditions

According to the weather department, due to the current heat, there is a possibility of a further increase in maximum temperatures during the day in West Bengal and Odisha. The heatwave situation could also become more severe. IMD senior scientist Soma Sen Roy told ANI, “Odisha is also facing a severe heatwave situation. However, there is a little relief compared to West Bengal. Despite this, a Red Alert has been issued.”

Temperature Records

In Bardhaman district of West Bengal, Panagarh recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Similarly, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius during the day. Other cities like Medinipur (43.5), Bankura (43.2), Barrackpore (43.2), Bardhaman (43), Asansol (42.5), Purulia (42.7), and Shriniketan (42) also experienced high temperatures.

Forecast for Delhi-NCR

After the rain on Friday, people in Delhi-NCR got some relief from the sweltering heat. The maximum temperature of the capital decreased from 40.5 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius on Saturday. IMD predicts that there will be partial clouds on Sunday as well. By Monday, the maximum temperature will again exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

Rain Alerts in Other States

IMD has forecast light rain with thunder in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu on Sunday. IMD has also predicted rain and lightning in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, and northern Telangana. On Sunday, light rain with thunder is expected in the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur.
