ICMR Warning on Protein Powder

Nowadays, there is a craze among youth to build bodies like Salman Khan, Tiger Shroff, and for this, they consume various supplements, with protein powder being the most popular. If they feel a little weakness in their bodies, they often buy protein powder from medical stores and mix it in milk. However, it is important to be cautious because excessive consumption of protein powder can lead to bone density loss and kidney damage, as warned by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Avoid Processed Foods

With the increasing cases of obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases in the country, ICMR has issued dietary guidelines cautioning against excessive consumption of protein powder. It is recommended to use natural foods for a healthy life and avoid processed foods. Ultra-processed foods like pizza, burgers, fast food, butter, cheese, added sugar, ice cream, chocolates, and items made from refined flour should be avoided to maintain good health.

Negative Effects of Protein Powder

Research has shown that protein powder can have detrimental effects on health due to added sugar, extra calories, and sometimes toxic chemicals. Some protein powders contain added sugar, which when mixed with milk can lead to an increase in calories, posing a risk of obesity and diabetes. Moreover, certain protein powders have been found to contain cancer-causing toxins like lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. Regular consumption of protein powder can weaken bones, increase the risk of kidney and heart damage, as highlighted by ICMR.
