Large Seizure of Banned Cough Syrup in Araria

Araria police in Bihar conducted a raid inside a closed house near the ABC canal and seized a large quantity of banned cough syrup. The raid resulted in the confiscation of 2675 bottles of banned cough syrup with a value of lakhs of rupees. This cough syrup, known as “sweet poison” after the ban on alcohol, is being smuggled from the foothills to remote villages in Nepal, involving several individuals in the illegal trade.

Police Action and Arrests

Acting on a tip-off, Araria police seized 2675 bottles of banned cough syrup hidden inside a walled enclosure near the ABC canal. Four luxury cars used in the smuggling operation were also confiscated at the scene. Three individuals involved in the illegal trade have been identified and will be arrested soon. The police are committed to apprehending all those involved in the illicit trade of the banned cough syrup.

History of Illegal Trade

This is not the first incident of illegal cough syrup smuggling in Araria. The police have been taking continuous action against such activities in the region. However, the scale of this “sweet poison” trade from the foothills to Nepal has raised concerns. The police have vowed to arrest all three suspects involved in the recent seizure, highlighting the widespread nature of the illegal trade.
