Heatwave Continues Across India

The scorching heatwave continues to affect many parts of the country, making it difficult for people to step out of their homes during the afternoon. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the northern parts of India, stating that the maximum temperatures in May are expected to be higher than usual, leading to intense heatwaves for the next four days.

Regions Affected by the Heatwave

According to IMD chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra, states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to experience higher-than-normal temperatures in May. Regions like Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar may also face heatwave conditions for two to four days.

Predictions for Rainfall

The IMD has forecasted average rainfall across the country in May, ranging from 91 to 109 percent. Some regions like Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are expected to receive more rainfall than usual. However, areas like Odisha, Northern Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, South West Bengal, and Kerala may witness below-average rainfall.

Record-breaking April Temperatures in Eastern India

After 1901, the average temperature in April in Eastern and Northeastern India was recorded at 28.12 degrees Celsius, the highest since then. The frequency of storms was lower, leading to higher temperatures than usual in these regions.
