The Jharkhand government presented a proposal for the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the safety of foreign tourists coming to the state in front of the High Court on Tuesday. The Acting Chief Justice Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar’s bench is hearing a petition in this regard, as the state government mentioned that the SOP includes two helpline numbers. Along with the helpline numbers, an app has also been created for immediate assistance. The next hearing date is scheduled for April 4th.

The state government informed the court that two helpline numbers and an app will be available for foreign tourists coming to the state to seek help from the police and other assistance. The state government’s lawyer stated that foreign tourists will have to provide their information at the first police check post when entering the state. This information will also be recorded in a centralized database for monitoring. Tourists will be provided with directions to the places they want to visit. It was clarified that this service will be available not only for foreign tourists but also for other tourists.

In Dumka, Jharkhand, last month, a Spanish woman, along with her husband, fell victim to a gang rape incident, which has put the administration on high alert regarding tourist safety. The victim stated in the FIR that she and her husband were traveling the world on a bike. They had set out on their motorbike from Kolkata to Nepal in March. When they reached near Kurmahat in Dumka, darkness started to set in, so they decided to stop there. They set up a tent about a kilometer away from the road. At around seven in the evening, they heard some noises, and she came out of the tent with her husband. Seven people arrived there. According to the victim, the people started arguing with her husband and then entered the tent and gang-raped her. The victim said that the perpetrators also looted $300, 11,000 rupees, and a diamond ring from her. She mentioned that one of the accused was around 30 years old, while the others were around 20-22 years old. The victim shared a post on social media saying, “I thought they would kill me, but by the grace of God, I am alive.”
