Lok Sabha Election in Jharkhand

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand are set to witness a major battle on the Dumka parliamentary seat. The contest is expected to be between the Shibu Soren family and the ruling Mahagathbandhan alliance led by the regional political party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) supremo Shibu Soren’s daughter, Sita Soren.

Sita Soren’s Candidacy

Sita Soren, who left JMM and joined BJP on March 19, has been chosen as the candidate from Dumka. There is speculation that a member of the Soren family or former Chief Minister Hemant Soren may also be fielded from Dumka. Hemant, currently in jail, is being considered for the Lok Sabha elections due to the support shown by party workers.

BJP’s Strategy

BJP has strategically fielded candidates like Vidhyut Varan Mahato and Kalicharan Singh to attract OBC and leading community voters respectively. With 13 candidates in the fray, including three women candidates, BJP is aiming for a strong representation in Jharkhand. If all three women candidates win, it will be the first time three female MPs will represent Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ticket Distribution

BJP has announced candidates for 13 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand, reserving one seat for alliance partner AJSU party. The party has replaced five out of eleven sitting MPs with new candidates. The decisions have been made in line with the party’s motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.
