Mushroom Production in Purnia

The production of mushrooms is quite beneficial in today’s time as it provides good profits at low costs. Farmers like Shashi Kumar from Banmankhi in Purnia have been producing mushrooms since 2018. Initially, they had no knowledge about mushroom cultivation, but after training from agricultural science centers, they started production on a large scale. They began with 20 polybags and are now producing mushrooms in over 3000 polybags.

Profitable Mushroom Farming

Shashi Kumar mentioned that mushroom cultivation is easy and yields high profits at low costs. With an average of 3000 polybags, one can produce over 300 kilograms of mushrooms. These mushrooms are sold wholesale at ₹200 per kilo, and new farmers are supported by offering them at ₹150 per kilo, with a discount of ₹50 to encourage better production.

Tips for Mushroom Cultivation

Shashi Kumar shared insights on mushroom cultivation, stating that it involves mixing rice and wheat husk, soaking it in water for 24 hours, adding some medicines, and then drying and packing it in plastic. The bags are then hung in a dark and cool room to maintain optimal temperature conditions. Different types of mushrooms like oyster, button, and milky are cultivated in Bihar, each with their specific growth seasons and production rounds.
